Week 3 reflections

In our third week of TELL class, we began by exploring various tools that facilitate learning and teaching. Our teacher introduced us to Tricider, a brainstorming tool that enables users to generate ideas and engage in discussions. To use Tricider, we need to visit their website, pose a question, and add a brief description. We can then share the link with others and encourage them to contribute their thoughts. The discussion remains open for 14 days, allowing participants to share their views and perspectives. In our next class, we discovered six more valuable tools. IPA Typewriter is a unique keyboard that allows us to type phonemes, while Photransedit helps us confirm the exact phonemic transcription of words. Phonetizer is another tool that offers phonemic transcription capabilities, with features like British and American versions, as well as audio playback options. We also explored Breaking News English, a website that aggregates current news articles from various sources. Lingro...

Week 2 reflections

"Our TELL class's second week began with Penzu, a static website and writing tool. This private online diary allows us to store data, which can only be shared with authorized individuals or by sharing the page link. We learned to log in, use features like image insertion and adding new pages, and share content via e۔ mail or link. Next, our tutor introduced phraseteacher.com, a vocabulary learning website with a listening feature for pronunciation practice. The following class covered desktop and browser versions of software, highlighting the offline capabilities of desktop versions and the internet requirements of browser versions. We were then introduced to screen capture tools: TechSmith Jing for podcasting and screencasting, offering 5-minute free video recordings, and Screencastomatic (ScreenPal), providing 15 minutes of free screen recording. Zoom allows for 40-minute free lecture recordings, while Vocaroo is an online voice recorder and podcasting tool. ScreenPal offers...

Week 1 reflections

Greetings everyone! In the inaugural session of TELL, I acquired a comprehensive introduction to the concept, which entails the strategic integration of technology to augment language learning. Furthermore, I was enlightened about the subsets of TELL, namely CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning) and MALL (Mobile-Assisted Language Learning). My instructor also elaborated on corpus linguistics and highlighted the potential of incorporating corpora such as BNC and COCA into TELL. The first class served as a foundational overview of the key terminology associated with TELL. In the subsequent session, I delved into the realm of blogging, which entails creating static websites to disseminate content. My teacher clarified the distinction between a blog, akin to a digital diary or journal, and blogging as a platform. We were introduced to various blogging platforms, including Blogger, WordPress, and Google Sites. Additionally, I gained insight into synchronous and asynchronous learning, w...
